Description

The Xwisten Lands is seeking individuals to conduct Ground Disturbing Monitoring, Heritage Field Reconnaissance (HFR) and Archaeological Impact assessment surveys for 2025 contract field season. The work is challenging and requires physical ability and willingness to perform field work in a variety of locations and conditions, including extended travel.
MAIN DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Demonstrate track record of reliability and dependability.
2) Ability to take & follow directions of the Heritage Field Supervisor and/or Lands Manager.
3) Knowledge of Xwisten Cultural Heritage procedures
4) Knowledge and use of the Garmin Rhino (750-755t) Handheld GPS Unit with 2-way radio.
5) Knowledge and use of a IPAD with Cellular Capabilities/Avenza Maps
6) Keep a detailed daily log of work preformed, crew attendance, Travel mileage (km’s), Cultural       Heritage Resource findings (Area/CP/Block/Road/etc).
7) Contribute to a teamwork environment as well as work independently.
8) Have excellent communications skills and an ability to problem solve.
9) Must be able and willing to perform field work in a variety of environmental conditions; physical ability to conduct extensive walking in adverse weather conditions.
10) Must be able and willing to stay in Camp, Hotels or other accommodations provided when and where required.
11) Follow Lands Check-out & Check-in Procedures and complete daily tailgate safety meetings and attend all Lands Monthly Safety meetings.
12) Hand in daily all complete Crew Field Notes/data to the Heritage Field Crew Supervisor
13) Report to the Heritage Field Crew Supervisor and/or the Lands Manager, field crew concerns, policy infractions, or safety concerns.
14) Attend meetings as requested by the Heritage Field Supervisor and/or the Lands Manager.
15) Participate in training as directed.
16) Other duties as requested by the Lands Manager and Chief and Council.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong knowledge of St’at’imc values and culture.
- Environmental Skills Certificate an asset
- RISC Archaeological and CMT Inventory Certificate is an asset
- Data Collection & Data management training
- Valid Level 1 First Aid & Transportation Endorsement Certified is an asset
- Bear Aware
- Medicinal Plants and Herbs training is an asset.
- Invasive Species training is an asset
- Basic Power saw Operator Certification is an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to take detailed field notes.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Valid Class 5 drivers license, and abstract is an asset
- Good physical condition to do field work.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Field work
- Office (notes, data entry, reports)
Wage: $27.00 with Risk Certification, $19 to $25.00 without Certification, depending on experience and certification
Seasonal Term Position: between August to November 2025, pending on workload
Days: 0-5 days per week, pending work availability, occasional weekend(s)
Contract Hours work: up to 12 hours a day
