Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to our optometrists and ensure a positive experience for our patients. You will be responsible for assisting with patient care, managing front desk operations, and maintaining accurate electronic medical records. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical office procedures, excellent communication skills, and a passion for providing exceptional patient service. We are willing to train on the job, and we will cover the cost of tuition for the Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant program.
Duties
- Assist optometrists during eye examinations and procedures.
- Manage patient flow and ensure timely appointments.
- Perform preliminary tests such as visual acuity and pressure checks.
- Maintain and update electronic medical records accurately.
- Provide information to patients regarding their eye care needs and services offered.
- Handle front desk responsibilities including scheduling appointments, answering phones, and processing patient check-ins.
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care and eyewear options.
- Support retail sales of optical products, ensuring an excellent customer experience.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the office and examination areas.
Skills
- Proficiency in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems; experience with Optosys is a plus.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology related to optometry.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on patient care.
- Experience in retail sales or optical environments is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced medical office setting.
- Knowledge of pediatrics is beneficial for assisting younger patients.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing patient records and appointments.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team while providing exceptional service to patients.
