Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Farm Hand to assist with daily operations with our federally regulated, organic certified farm. The ideal candidate will primarily be responsible for weed whacking and sanitization however will support the team in other roles as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Weed whacking

  • Clear and collect brush and debris from fields and other work areas

  • Clear fields of stones

  • Operate and maintain farm equipment

  • Regular sanitation of greenhouse and storage areas and document records

  • Equipment sanitation and document records

  • Weekly cleaning and organization of farm truck, kitchen and lunch room

  • Application of field amendments

  • Harvest crops

  • Awareness and strict compliance with all WorkSafe procedures and federal regulations

Requirements

  • Valid drivers licence and ability to get yourself to and from the work location each day

  • Absolutely must arrive at work promptly and ready to start work at the set time

  • This is an outdoor job that operates in all weather conditions. The location is exposed to high winds, freezing temperatures, rain, and high heat.

  • Early morning start time is required in summer, and all employees must arrive to work on time

  • Break time is structured into two 15-minute breaks and one hour break for lunch.

  • Overtime is required on an as needed basis. Typically, overtime is required for a month in October when weather is often cold and wet.

  • A high degree of physical fitness and attention to detail is required.

  • Physical ability to perform heavy lifting

  • must have a positive solution orientated attitude, take direction and stay on task.

  • must be able to stay calm under stress, communicate calmly and respectfully under all conditions

  • A strong work ethic is required for this job

  • Staff are prohibited from being on site while under the influence of any drugs or alcohol

Experience

  • Prior experience with farming and labour-intensive work outdoors exposed to varying weather conditions

  • Ability to operate power tools and hand tools safely and effectively

  • Knowledge of WorkSafe

  • Strong work ethic with the willingness to learn new skills in a hands-on environment

Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 6 months

Pay: $18.50-$22.00 per hour
