HOME SUPPORT WORKER
POSITION: Home Support Worker / Home Care Aid
WORK HOURS: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, 35 hours per week
REPORTS TO: Health Manager
JOB SUMMARY
The Cayoose Creek Band (CCB) is currently seeking an enthusiastic people-orientated individual to fill the position of a Home Support Worker (HSW) / Care Aid. The HSW will play a key role in the operations of the Health Development Department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide personal care such as, bathing and grooming, assistance with eating, simple bedside care, routine foot and nail care, getting ready for bed, maintaining medical regimes, toileting, dressing, transferring, activation, skin care, and promoting self-reliance
- Provide respite care, including: meal planning and preparation, provide information about healthy diets and meal information, promote independence of clients, maintain accurate records, and engage in professional development.
- Implement the Home and Community Care program by ensuring information is gathered, participate in the ongoing planning of the program, monitor the inventory of supplies needed by the Home Care Nurse, adhere to policies, and attend all staff meetings.
- Coordinate the care of Elders by creating social activities for them, planning monthly or bi-weekly tea and snacks, planning birthday acknowledgements, bring Elders to other communities’ activities, assist Elders with annual holiday luncheons, assist Elder groups, and plan annual calendar of event and activities for the Elders.
- Coordinate health education by distributing pamphlets, provide workshops, and deliver health resources.
- Coordinate health care by maintaining continuous and consistent contact through home visits, assist Elders and their families with filling out health related forms, and foster independence by encouraging clients to make their own medical appointments.
- Promote administrative responsibilities by maintaining confidential client documents, accurate records of client visits, accurate client care reports, submit written monthly reports, and participate in the development in the policies.
- Engage in liaison duties by collaborating with other staff members, and establish strong relationships with community agencies.
- Learn and practice correct legal charting procedures.
- Ensure rights of Sekw’el’was community members are not compromised by decisions made without their agreement.
- Other duties/tasks as required and as assigned.
KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain strong relationships;
- Excellent communication skills with ability to work with people from various backgrounds;
- Conflict resolution skills;
- Able to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision as well as working within a collaborative team framework;
- Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize;
- Understanding of Cayoose Creek community protocols is an asset.
- Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and integrity.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to prioritize and organize assignments in an efficient manner;
- Experience working in First Nation (FN) communities, working with FN clients
- Demonstrated application of safe body mechanics;
- Demonstrated ability in providing all aspects of personal care, ability to lift;
- Demonstration knowledge of infection control practices, ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality;
- Ability to work with behaviourally difficult clients
Qualifications
- Home Care Attendant Certificate or Home Support Certification
- B.C. Care Aide & Community Health Registry Number
- First Aid with Transportation Endorsement
- Food Safe Certification
- Successful completion of a criminal record check
- Class 5 Drivers License.
Salary Range: $22.00 To $28.00 Per Hour depending on qualifications and skills
Term: Indefinite (Upon Completion of Probation)
Scope: Full Time, 35 Hour Per Week
