Description

The Addictions and Mental Health Recovery Worker is primarily responsible for prevention, assessment and referrals, treatment, aftercare, community development, liaison, health promotion and administration.
Xaxli’p is an organization that operates to support, serve and provide programs & services to Xaxli’p community and Xaxli’p people in order to instill and promote pride, independence and self-sufficiency.

As part of the Addictions and Mental Health Recovery Worker position, you will:

  • Performs all the duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Xaxli’p policies, standards, and procedures, and as directed by the Health Manager.
  • Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating the affairs of the Xaxli’p.
  • Promotes and participates in cultural, recreational, and social programs that offer an alternative to an addictive lifestyle.
  • Provides appropriate client referrals to detox and treatment centres.
  • Assists in monitoring clients, case management and development of client’s case plans and goals.
  • Provides preventative counseling services to individuals and families at risk of becoming dependent on drugs, alcohol and/or other substances.
  • Provides one-on-one and group counseling services for those clients who have chosen not to access detox or treatment centers.
  • Develops client supportive roles and structures in the community.
  • Follow up with clients returning from treatment.
  • Work collaboratively with other health and service providers.
  • Create a client focused recovery plan including support for daily activities (daily, recreational, social, educational, employment).

You may be our successful candidate for this role if you possess:

Education/ Training:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Formal training in Alcohol and Drug prevention and intervention from an accredited institution
  • Preferred Diploma in Alcohol and Drug Counseling or Bachelor of Social Work

Experience:

  • Prefer 3-4 years related experience.
  • Basic counseling experience
  • Knowledge of Alcohol & Drug Treatment & Referral
  • Experience in the development and delivery of alcohol, drug, and other substance abuse programs

Personal Qualifications and Other Skills and Knowledge:

  • Preference given to Xaxli’p Member (must have the required qualifications, as defined, for the position)
  • Knowledge of the St’at’imc Culture
  • Minimum three (3) years sobriety of any substance abuse & leading a healthy lifestyle.
  • Knowledge of related treatment programs
  • Excellent counseling skills & organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A team worker, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Criminal records check with Vulnerable Sector completed
  • Valid BC Driver’s License & Driver’s abstract is required.
