Description

Working as a member of the Xwisten Health and Administration team to provide assessment, referrals, and counseling to Xwisten members. The Community Wellness Worker will liaise with other departments and local service providers and groups to participate in educational sessions, provide programming, and offer support services.
Duties and Responsibilities and not limited to:
• Increase awareness and understanding among the Bridge River Band residents and members about mental, emotional, alcohol, and substance abuse issues.
• Assessments, referrals, and a follows up for clients requiring treatment.
• Act as a resource for clients and their families by providing information regarding accessing community services, facilitating referrals where appropriate, and assisting in the development of Xwisten resources by identifying service gaps needed to support the health and well-being of all members.
• Assist in the development and provision of relevant educational programs for home, health care staff, clients, their families, and community agencies on psychosocial issues as they relate to health, illness, and disability.
• Liaise with other health service providers, traditional healers, and community services.
• Provide counselling and support to our members and maintain written and clinical records as required.
• Increase awareness about and promote healthier lifestyles (for example, through traditional values and individual and family wellness values) including providing culturally appropriate programs to educate and promote healthier lifestyles and addiction-free lifestyles.
• Other duties as assigned by the Health Manager, Administrator and Chief & Council
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelors (Social Work or related field) Degree with a specialization in Mental Health counselling from an accredited educational institution in an Allied Health, Behavioral, or Social Science field relevant to this position.
• Addictions Counselling Training. Preference will be given to applicants who have been certified as an Addictions Counselor by ICBOC, CACCF, or CCPC.
• A minimum of 2-4 years of recent experience in providing assessments, referrals, and counselling.
• Proven experience in community outreach, particularly with Indigenous communities
• Empathetic and non-judgmental approach to working with members in crisis and healing plan
• Knowledge and understanding of Xwisten community, culture and challenges
• Computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Good communication skills, verbal and written
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Skills and training in crises intervention
• Knowledge of community resources available to clients and how to access them
• Handling and working with confidential documents and files
• Valid BC Driver’s License, have a reliable vehicle and willing to travel
• Successful candidate must also be willing to submit a Criminal Records Check with a vulnerable sector search
Salary: $27.00 to $38.00, depending on experience and training
