Job Summary
The Team:
The Cascades District First Nations Relations Team is a long standing, relationship centered group that brings heart, care, and collaboration to every part of its work. With a senior advisor and the successful candidate working closely together, the team partners with district staff, regional colleagues, decision makers, and Indigenous communities to support thoughtful consultation and stronger shared outcomes. It’s a space where learning is continuous, support is genuine, and the impact reaches far beyond any single project - strengthening partnerships and contributing to meaningful progress in reconciliation.
The Role:
The Advisor, First Nations Relations role centres on nurturing respectful relationships with First Nations communities, supporting consultation processes, and offering thoughtful, culturally informed guidance to internal teams and decision makers. The work directly influences how land and resource decisions are shaped across the district, strengthening partnerships that matter to communities and the land itself. Candidates who are energized by cultural learning, collaboration across governments, and meaningful problem solving will find this opportunity deeply fulfilling, with added benefits such as participation in the CORE program through the BC Wildfire Service.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

Degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) or higher related to the natural resource sector (e.g., forestry, resource management, biology, agrology, environmental science), or other relevant discipline (e.g., Indigenous studies, public policy, archaeology), and two (2) years of recent, related natural resource experience; OR,
-
Diploma or Certificate related to the natural resource sector, or other relevant discipline, and three (3) years of recent, related natural resource experience; OR,
-
An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.
Preference may be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:

Minimum of one (1) year experience leading or supporting consultation processes and/or negotiations and or supporting agreements with First Nations.

Minimum of six (6) months’ experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, and social or economic development issues.

Minimum of six (6) months’ experience in managing multiple projects and assignments.
Additional Requirements:

Must have a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence, or an equivalent class driver's licence from another province or jurisdiction.
