Description

The Public Works Department is looking for a pool of On-Call Relief Labourers to ensure sufficient staffing in Public Works on a daily basis. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will commence work on Monday, April 22, 2024, to commence training, and will remain employed on As and When Needed basis. Notification to work will be on short notice with no guaranteed hours.

SCOPE OF WORK:

• Perform manual labour associated with construction and ongoing operation, maintenance, and repair of municipal roads, sidewalks, surface drainage facilities, sewer, water works, parks, equipment, sanitation, and municipal buildings as directed by the Public Works Foreman,

• Where qualified, perform the work of other Public Works classifications (at those pay rates) as required, to ensure the efficient operation of the Public Works Department,

• Be available for call-out emergencies in the municipal infrastructure as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

• EOCP certification in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment and/or Wastewater Collection,

• Any other experience or expertise that the Applicant may have that adds value to their resume (incl. trades experience, professional certifications, technological/IT skills, air brakes, etc.)

HOURS OF WORK: No guaranteed hours. On an on-call basis.

RATE OF PAY: This is a Union position within CUPE Local 173, but it should be noted that the only provisions of the Collective Agreement that apply to this position are union due deductions, four percent (4%) in lieu of vacation, and the grievance procedures.
