Job Summary:

The Wellness Counsellor is responsible for providing a range of activities and support the community members within the community. The services provided will include, traditional/cultural, athletic activities, support services, referral and community education. The Wellness Counsellor worker will work closely with other professionals and the community to respond to community need through the provision of prevention programs, support groups, a strong referral network and distribution of information.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote and participate in cultural, recreational, and social programs that provide wellness and bring joy to the community.
  • Lead and create projects pertaining to wellness
  • Cooperate with other agencies to respond community needs
  • Refer clients to appropriate resources such as treatment or rehabilitation centers
  • Complete supervised visits for clients
  • Provide counselling services to community members and 
  • Cooperate with other Cayoose Creek Indian Band's staff members to facilitate programs. 
  • Provide wellness events for community members and staff. 
  • Develop policies and documentation that will promote healthy living within the Sekw'el'was community. 
  • Prepare monthly reports. 
  • Apply for grants and funds relating to wellness. 
  • Maintain confidential client records. 
  • Other duties as assigned.  

Skills: 

  • Willing to work weekends or outside of typical work hours. 
  • Knowledge of the processes and practices of office administration 
  • Knowledge and understanding of community and services provided 
  • Ability to conduct research and prepare reports and correspondence 
  • Ability to work effectively and build relationships with a broad range of organizations and individuals 
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team, in a fast-paced dead lined-oriented environment while managing a number of projects and tasks 
  • Organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills 
  • Analytical, research and problem-solving skills 
  • Verbal and oral communication skills, with proficiency in the use of grammar, spelling and punctuation 
  • Microsoft office applications including MS word, excel, and power point 
  • ote taking/short hand, creating and managing indigenous based programs

Qualifications

  • Education (general counselling certificates) and experience with three or more years of directly related work experience. 
  • OR previous direct program delivery experience in the community social service sector with demonstrated working knowledge of a specific community-based program and related provincial and community support referred. 
  • Valid BC Driver's License {Class 5) and a reliable vehicle. 
  • Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector check. 

Salary Range: $30.00 To $35.00 per hour
