Job Summary:

The Finance director will oversee the financial management of all departments within the Cayoose Creek Indian Band and Sekw’el’was governance house. The finance director is intended to the be the most Senior Employee under the Administrator and will act when the Administrator is unavailable as the most senior employee in the administration. The Finance director will also act as an advisor to Chief and Council when making financial decisions related to our trust and management of our lands.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages junior and senior staff, and mentors’ staff in finance best practices.
  • Establish and maintains financial policies and controls.
  • Establish and maintain financial reports.
  • Prepare financial budgets and plans including developing and oversees annual operating and capital budget development.
  • Monitors annual revenue and expenditures against budget, Band objectives, and funding agreements and analyze the financial implications of department activities.
  • Account reconciliation, manage all accounts including payroll and accounts payable.
  • Produces monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and other reports as directed, Includes annual consolidated statements.
  • Leads year-end audit process and facilitates audit with external auditors.
  • Other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Canadian CPA designation required.
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in a senior or supervisory role
  • Required: Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License with a clean Drivers Abstract and reliable transportation.
  • Required: Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Preference for experience in First Nation services.
  • Preference for members of Sekw’el’was.
