Description

Xwísten, Bridge River Indian Band, is seeking full-time seasonal Fisheries Technicians. In this role, you will assist in carrying out all aspects of the Lower Bridge River Aquatic Monitoring Programs, including fish population assessments, Chinook Broodstock collection, Rotary Screw Trap operation, and other fisheries and environmental monitoring projects within the Bridge River Watershed. You will work alongside Xwísten's Lands and Resources department and various sub-contractors, contributing to data collection, field sampling, and program reporting throughout the season. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on outdoor field experience, we encourage candidates of all experience levels to apply!
RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

  • Participate in field monitoring and data entry activities on a full-time basis.

  • Develop and edit data sheets as needed in MS Word and Excel.

  • Data entry of data sheets collected in the field.

  • Certifications in: Electrofishing, OFA level 1 (higher, preferred), Transportation Endorsement, Swift Water Rescue, WPP Cat A/B (training will be made available).

  • Must be able to work safely within a semi-remote location and in a team environment.

  • Ability to work additional hours as required.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

  • Must be comfortable communication with other in a professional manner on a regular basis by telephone, email and in person.

  • Juvenile and Adult fish ID skills and knowledge of Bridge River salmon, is an asset.

  •  Fisheries Technician Certificate Preferred or similar education, is an asset.

CERTIFICATIONS RECOMMENDED:

  • Backpack Electrofishing (Crew Supervisor and or crew member)

  • OFA level 1 (higher, preferred)

  • Transportation Endorsement

  • Swift Water Rescue

  • WPP Cat A/B

  •  Bear Aware

  • Class 5 drivers’ licence & Reliable Vehicle

Wage: $26.00 – $28.00 per hour based on experience.
Hours: Varies due to schedule and include weekends
