T’it’q’et Administration is committed to fostering community wellbeing and supporting our most vulnerable community members. Due to an urgent need, we are seeking a dedicated and energetic individual who is experienced in providing essential Mental Health and Substance Use Services to community members within the T’it’q’et communities in accordance with the T’it’q’et Comprehensive Community Plan.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Counsellor delivers both in-person and virtual counselling services to community members and T’it’q’et Registered Band Members at the T’it’q’et Administration Health & Social Services office. This position also provides collaborative care planning and wraparound care services for all clients. The work is performed through a decolonizing approach (cultural safety and humility), with awareness of clients’ intersectionality and healing journey to design treatment tailored to meet the needs of each client.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide comprehensive clinical counselling and psychotherapy to clients affected by mental illness and/or addictions, including complex cases and individuals in crisis, using a variety of evidence-based psychotherapeutic techniques.

Provide short-term brief interventions, follow up, monitor, and evaluate treatment outcomes.

Deliver group therapy and education sessions to clients and/or their families using various group processes and theory.

Identify gaps and problems with service and recommend solutions to assist in the development and maintenance of a coordinated mental health care system within the community.

Provide education on mental health issues to the interdisciplinary shared care team in conjunction with other Mental Health and Substance Use team members or with a Psychiatrist, community groups, and agencies; present information and education sessions to professional colleagues and other government and non-government agencies.

Provide education and/or workshops on grief and loss, family dynamics, and community mental wellness best practices.

Carry out treatment plans and interventions, provide support and crisis intervention, including facilitation of hospitalization where necessary.

Facilitate cognitive, emotional, and behavioral change through crisis intervention and short-term psychotherapy based on treatment goals.

Provide referrals to appropriate agencies and share collaborative information regarding psychiatric situations, including substance abuse and dependence.

Collaborate with Traditional and/or Spiritual Healers, families, and community resources as needed to support client-identified goals.

Integrate cultural ceremony, traditions, and customs into related duties where appropriate and as needed.

Collaborate with First Nations health providers to identify and address gaps, barriers, and challenges in service delivery and offer solutions-based approaches.

Facilitate clients’ use of appropriate community services by maintaining knowledge of other services and liaising with them; collaborate with key agencies to ensure clients receive appropriate and timely service delivery and continuity of care.

Document and track clinical records using the provided document tracking forms (e.g., incident reports, work plans, case management plans). Maintain written reports and statistics and prepare written reports according to established policies and procedures.

Provide education and/or training (capacity building) to the Wellness Navigator, Substance Use Worker, and/or BSD Worker, and supervise as needed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education
-
Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or other related discipline from an accredited educational institution within Canada.
Occupational Certification
-
Current designation as either a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), a Certified Clinical Counsellor (CCC) or a Registered Social Worker (RSW) specializing in counselling.
Experience
-
Minimum of four (4) years of recent related experience in community and/or hospital settings providing programs for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Minimum of two (2) years of recent related experience working with First Nations in British Columbia and/or Canada with trauma-informed practice.

Experience working with First Nations children, youth, and/or adults.

Experience working with groups and/or virtual modalities when needed.
Knowledge
-
Knowledge of various therapeutic and counselling modalities and specific brief intervention approaches.

Sound knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, addiction issues, culturally safe and trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented care, and severe and persistent mental illness.

Knowledge of assessment and screening tools and modalities in determining suicide and violence risk and threats.

Knowledge of relevant socio-historical events affecting Canadian Indigenous populations.

Knowledge of the importance of critical reflection in practice.

Familiarity with traditional healing practices, customs, values, and traditions of local Interior First Nations of British Columbia.

Excellent computer and communication skills.
