Position: Youth Worker
Department: Education

Compensation: $18.25- $21.00 - Competitive salary based on experience
Hours: 35 hrs/week

POSITION SUMMARY
The Youth Worker is essential in assisting the Youth Coordinator in creating and implementing programs that support young people's development. These initiatives enhance educational opportunities, promote healthy activities and cultural teachings and offer mentorship. By collaborating with schools, community centers, and non-profits, the Youth Worker fosters an environment where youth can thrive socially, academically, and emotionally, helping to develop future leaders and engaged community members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate with Youth Coordinator to set goals and create a monthly schedule of activities, such as homework help, arts and crafts, gardening, and sports.
• Assist with prepping for meals, snacks, and youth activities or trips.
• Work with T’it’q’et staff to coordinate events for Community Youth.
• Prepare healthy snacks and meals for “Dinner and Movie” nights.
• Organize fundraising events, assist with supporting volunteers, and secure donations.
• Contribute to the Youth Council when required.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Be a positive role model and effective leader, showing initiative and working well in teams. Strong communication, organizational, and creative thinking skills are essential.
- Design and implement activities, workshops, and events in sports, education, culture, and the arts.
- Experience working with youth in community or educational settings is required.
- Proficiency in descriptive writing and computer operations is essential.
- Supervise and monitor the Youth Worker and trainees, ensuring compliance with policies and standards.
- Maintain effective communication with Youth Workers, parents, and youth.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Possess a BC Driver’s Class 5 license or working towards it
• Prefer Grade 12 and/or first year post-secondary courses, but Grade 10 would be acceptable with a combination of proven knowledge and experience in budgeting, finance, coordinating events, etc.
• Must have/or be willing to complete Level 1 First Aid or better and a Food Safe certificate
• Pass a vulnerable criminal record check and produce a Driver’s Abstract.
