Bridge River Indian Band (Xwisten) Lands & Resources Department is seeking motivated individuals to join the Land Stewardship Crew for the 2026 field season. This position provides hands-on experience across Fisheries Monitoring, Cultural Heritage Protection, and Fire Smart Wildfire Risk Reduction within the Bridge River Traditional Territory.
Wage: $18.50 to $25.00 per hour minimum and depending upon experience and skills

2 Seasonal Summer Student Position(s) 8 Weeks & 1 Post Secondary Student 16 Week Position
Bridge River Indian Band (Xwisten) Lands & Resources Department is seeking motivated individuals to join the Land Stewardship Crew for the 2026 field season. This position provides hands-on experience across Fisheries Monitoring, Cultural Heritage Protection, and Fire Smart Wildfire Risk Reduction within the Bridge River Traditional Territory.
Crew members will be assigned to different program areas (Fisheries, Heritage, Fire Smart) and will gain cross-training through scheduled rotations and shared field activities while ensuring all program areas are supported.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in environmental monitoring, cultural resource work, and land stewardship.
Fisheries & Environmental Monitoring

Assist with fish population monitoring and aquatic habitat assessments

Support field sampling, data collection, and reporting
-
Maintain accurate field notes and data records
-
Other duties as assigned by the Lands Coordinator, Lands Director and Administrator
Cultural Heritage & Land Monitoring
-
Assist with cultural heritage assessments and ground disturbance monitoring
-
Support archaeological reconnaissance and site documentation
-
Use GPS, tablets, and field data collection tools
-
Maintain daily logs, safety records, and reports
Fire Smart & Wildfire Risk Reduction
-
Assist Fire Smart Coordinators with community wildfire risk reduction
-
Support fuel management and vegetation clearing projects
-
Conduct Fire Smart assessments and field work
General Responsibilities:

Work safely in field and office environments

Attend training, meetings, and safety briefings

Work independently and as part of a team

Other duties as assigned by Lands Department
Requirements:

Valid Basic First Aid Certificate (minimum Level 1)
-
Transportation Endorsement
-
Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work

Willingness to work in various weather and field conditions

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Reliable, punctual, and adaptable
-
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (an asset)

Knowledge of St’át’imc culture, values, and territory (an asset)
-
Experience in fisheries, environmental, or land-based work (an asset)

GPS and field data collection experience (an asset)
-
Fire Smart (S100/S185), Chainsaw, or safety certifications (an asset)
-
Environmental, archaeological, or heritage training (an asset)

Bear Awareness, Swift Water, or Electrofishing certifications (an asset)

Training may be provided to successful candidates
Working Conditions:
