Department: Health & Social Services

Reports to: Health & Social Services Manager

Compensation: $25-30 per/hr (Based on education & experience)

Hours: 8:00am to 4:00pm (but must be flexible)

T’ít’q’et Administration is committed to fostering community wellbeing and supporting our most vulnerable community members. Due to an urgent staffing need, we are seeking dedicated and energetic individuals who are experienced in providing essential Addiction Services to community members within the T’ít’q’et communities that adhere to the T’ít’q’et Comprehensive Community Plan.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Wellness Navigator, Substance Use Worker will provide mental health and wellness supports and referral services to community members or groups struggling with alcohol and/or drug abuse, promoting drug and alcohol-free lifestyles and positive choices. This role requires cultural competency, crisis management skills, and a commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and supporting St’át’imc healing practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reduce the level and frequency of alcohol, illegal substances, and prescription drug abuse by providing community & educational programs, such as harm reduction, AA, NA, & Peer support groups.

Establish client intake and assessments, provide addiction referral services to approved alcohol and/or drug treatment facilities in BC in accordance with FNHA standards, etc.

Offer urgent mental health assistance & programming services to individuals struggling with addiction and/or mental health issues. Including suicide prevention or life-threatening situations.

Act as a liaison contact person to facilitate the treatment process for clients when required.

Keep accurate and up to date client files, maintaining confidentiality etc.

Aid in access to St’át’imc traditional person(s) on request of community member.

Write(s) and submit proposals and create reports to funders and/or Administration.

Collaborates with the T’ít’q’et Health & Social Services team and/or administrative team.

Responsible and maintaining departmental budget(s) and year-end reporting

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Recent and relevant addiction specialist experience with a minimum 2 - 5 years.

Experience supporting people who use drugs and their families with a trauma-informed cultural lens.

Knowledge of counseling techniques and family systems. Ability to provide one-on-one mental wellness supports.

Motivational interviewing skills preferred.

Mediation and negotiation skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Valid BC Driver’s License Class 5, with reliable vehicle, and comprehensive insurance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Prefer a minimum of a two-year relevant diploma or degree with addictions schooling emphasis from recognized educational institution.

Prefer NNADAP Certification.

Minimum level 1 First Aid and CPR with AED training.

Naloxone and relevant training (Trainer preferred)

Confirmed clear Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector check(s).
