This position includes 60 minutes per week of non-classroom collaboration time.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Principal or teacher, the Education Assistant is required to work effectively as a member of a team to support students in developing independence in an inclusive environment. The successful applicant is expected to:
• Provide assistance in implementation of Inclusive Education Plan goals and supports.
• Work effectively with students with diverse needs in an inclusive environment and respond effectively to challenges that are physically and emotionally demanding.
• Monitor, observe and record data on student growth and compile information/materials for student care team meetings as directed.
• Provide positive behaviour supports including reinforcement and consequences.
• Carry out daily schedules and life-skills routines/activities under direction of teachers.
• Encourage and support students in the development of personal skills and interests to promote independence.
• As directed, work with outside agencies and consultants such as speech and language pathologists and physiotherapists  to carry out prescribed exercises and programs.
• Provide close supervision of students in classroom, school, playground and community settings.
• Provide personal assistance that may include lifting, mobility, toileting.
• Work in a setting with a high degree of confidentiality.
• Perform other job-related duties.
• Demonstrate the qualities of a good role model, including relating in a supportive, positive, encouraging manner to students of all ages.
• Display excellent communication and interpersonal skills in working with students, staff and caregivers.

The Noon Hour Supervisor will be required to:
• Supervise and monitor students during the lunch break in lunchrooms, inside buildings and school grounds
• Administer established school and playground rules.
• Provide a first response to behaviour or safety problems.
• Report student incidents to the Principal or Head Teacher.

RATE OF PAY: $32.96 for 4.5 hrs/day (22.5hrs/week)

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Successful completion of an approved Education Assistant Program
• Computer literacy
• Willingness to learn specialized skills and programs as required.
• Physical capability to perform duties, including lifting and toileting.
