Xaxli’p CFS Department is looking for an energetic, highly organized, creative, and motivated Language & Cultural Coordinator to coordinate language and cultural revitalization in Xaxli’p.
The Language and Cultural coordinator will encourage the use of language and culture in all aspects of life and programs. This will help to revitalize knowledge of traditional language resulting in improved self-esteem, cultural identity, and overall mental wellness. The Language & Cultural coordinator will oversee programs and give guidance on ways to use language and culture in programs while organizing language and cultural projects to be delivered in community. Proposal based funding.
Key Responsibilities:
• Build capacity of the St’át’imcets Language/Dialect and Culture in the community by planning, organizing and implementing Language and cultural programs and activities. As well as working collaboratively with department to ensure that services for clients are culturally appropriate.
• Support language learners to ensure that they are supported on their journey.
• Facilitate revitalization of cultural traditions and traditional knowledge.
• Strengthen deep roots in values, beliefs, ceremonies, songs, stories, social and political structures, and spirituality.
• Determine how many fluent Band members we currently have.
• Deliver language learning and language revitalization in a method that Band members desire and relate to.
• Assist in policy and program development to ensure that language and culture are being utilized within policy and programs.
Qualifications/Experience:
? Post-secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
? Familiar with First Nation governance structures and working within a First Nation community.
? Knowledge of the Xaxli’p organization and administration
? Knowledge of and active in St’át’imcets language, culture, and community.
? Experience in developing and implementing curriculum.
? Experience with current and emerging language revitalization strategies.
? Experience with group facilitation.
? Ability to respond effectively to sensitive issues, inquiries, and concerns.
? Experience in relationship-building with diverse people and groups.
? Ability to facilitate cultural workshops and hosting gatherings.
? Experience preparing grant proposals, administering grant funds, and writing reports.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
? Knowledge of First Nations culture and traditions
? Ability to demonstrate cultural safety and humility.
? Demonstrated skills in planning, project management, and budget management.
? Ability to maintain confidentiality, effectively manage stress, and have a positive attitude.
? Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, etc.) and virtual communication platforms (Zoom, Skype, etc.)
? Leadership and facilitation skills
Education, Skills, and Knowledge
• Grade 12 completion and/or experience working in an office.
• Computer technology skills, including hardware and software literacy.
• Good oral and written communication and people skills
• Organizational and planning skills, and able to multi-task
• Dedicated team worker, integrity, excellent work ethic
• Criminal and vulnerable record check is mandatory.
• Valid License and reliable vehicle are an asset.
