Splitrock Environmental Sekw’el’was is an aboriginal owned business that specializes in environmental services, ecological restoration, ethnobotanical services, and propagation of native plants. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has a passion for the environment, who is a team player, and eager to learn. Splitrock is a multi-discipline company and the summer job student will have the opportunity to assist in many different projects being undertaken at Splitrock.

Responsibilities:

The Summer Student Worker  will work under the Nursery Manager. Responsibilities include;

  • Planting, watering and weeding in the nursery

  • Vegetation management/removal of invasive species

  • Community outreach with schools and other organizations

  • Harvesting seed etc. from the wild 

  • Assisting on various environmental projects 

  • maintenance of grounds

  • learning to work with various tools including, weed whacker, tractor, and landscaping tools

  • learning about native plant medicine as well as how to make them from local plants

Qualifications:

  • Must be physically fit, this is a physical job

  • A positive attitude, ability to be flexible, and someone who thrives on diversity and learning new skills in their job.

  • Experience working with aboriginal communities, industry and non-profit organizations are a plus

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in interactive multi- disciplinary team situations.

  • Punctuality and good time management are a must

  • Must have a ride to and from work
