Description

The Child & Family Prevention Worker provides outreach intervention services to families who need support and are experiencing difficulties with parenting and who are potentially at risk of family breakdown. The goal is to restore family functioning by encouraging positive choices and decisions, exploring new, effective parenting options and helping families access additional support services and help improve life choices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Assists the Social Development & Child & Family Manager and the Social Development Coordinator in the implementation of the overall social development strategy and new social programs, including child welfare on-reserve
• Working knowledge of social services policies and programs, with strong knowledge of other activities/opportunities that will assist with social development and child welfare
• Works with families in their homes and in the community to create safe and healthy interactions, including family support and intervention with positive outcome
• Assess the needs and strengths of children and families, and develop individualized service plans in consultation with families, community members, and relevant professionals
• Advocacy: Capability to advocate for the best interests of children and families, both within the community (and within child welfare systems)
• Develops service plans for referrals and self-referred clients, providing support, utilizing program resources and working with partners
• Conduct regular meetings with parents to address their concerns and ensure ongoing support and engagement
• Empowerment: Skill in empowering families to take an active role in decision-making processes and advocating for their needs and rights
• Share positive practices, enhancing child safety, encouraging healthy parenting skills and constructive parent/child relationships, providing strategies/techniques for behavior management
• Model and coach constructive decision making
• Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and support groups to educate parents and caregivers on effective parenting techniques and child development practice
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of all client interactions, services provided, and program activities
• Prepare regular reports on program outcomes, challenges, and recommendations for improvement
• Other duties as assigned by the Social Development & Child & Family Manager, Administrator and Chief & Council
Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum 2 years’ experience
• Bachelor's Social Work Degree or other relevant degree
• Proven experience in child welfare, family services, or community outreach, particularly with Indigenous communities
• Empathetic and non-judgmental approach to working with families in crisis
• Knowledge and understanding of Xwisten community, culture and challenges
• Computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Good communication skills, verbal and written
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Skills and training in conflict management resolution, including crises intervention
• Knowledge of community resources available to clients and their families and how to access them
• Handling and working with confidential documents and files
• Valid Driver’s License, have a reliable vehicle and willing to travel
Salary: $30.33 to $39.12
