Title: Summer Library Assistant Start Date: July 2, 2024

End Date: August 23rd, 2024

Wage: $20/ hour plus 4% holiday pay Hours: 35 hours/ week.

Schedule for Monday to Friday with occasional weekend events.  

Job Description:

 The successful applicant will be part of a team that will design and deliver the Summer Reading Club (SRC) program at the Lillooet Public Library.  The SRC is a provincially coordinated program that provides high quality theme based plans for operating a successful program in local Libraries. The theme for 2024 is “A World of Curiosities”.  

Tasks include:  

  •  Chose fun, engaging books that pair with the weekly themes
  •  Create craft activities that help children learn the ideas presented in the weekly theme o Research and lead active games that help children learn new skills and ideas
  • Lead reflective conversation with groups to encourage children to talk about what they have learned
  •  Help children find books that inspire and excite their curiosity and interests
  • Design and deliver literacy games at the Farmer’s Market and other community events as public health orders allow.  
  • Assist in the Library as required, duties will include: shelving, inventory, arranging displays, and working at the summer used book sale.  

Skills and Experience:

  • · Knowledge of local ecology, animals, history and cultures ·
  • Strong expressive reading skills ·
  • Good communication and team work skills ·
  • Imagination, creativity and enthusiasm for stories and games ·
  • Experience creating and delivering children's programs

Eligibility:

The successful applicant must be:  

  • Between the age of 15-30
  • A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or a person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  •  Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
